The materials used for high-pressure hoses are divided into non-metallic and metallic materials. In the production of high-pressure hoses, non-metallic materials such as nitrile rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, and chloroprene rubber are commonly used. With technological advancements and development in the rubber industry, materials such as ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, chloroprene ether rubber, and hydrogenated nitrile rubber are gradually applied to high-pressure hose products to manufacture high-performance, high-value-added high-pressure hoses. Non-metallic reinforcement materials include nylon and polyester fiber. With the development of the textile industry, high-performance materials such as aramid fiber are gradually applied to high-pressure hoses. Metallic materials include round-section copper-coated steel wire and zinc-coated steel wire as skeleton layer materials. With the advancement of computer simulation and testing technologies, flat steel wire (round-section copper-coated steel wire with an elliptical cross-section) will be applied to high-pressure hoses.
New materials for high-pressure hoses:
(1) Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR): Excellent heat resistance, steam resistance, weathering resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and good electrical insulation properties. Particularly resistant to diol ether brake fluid and vegetable oil. Suitable for manufacturing high-pressure hoses that are heat-resistant, steam-resistant, and resistant to strong corrosive media.
(2) Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (CSM): Excellent ozone and weathering resistance, good chemical corrosion resistance, good flame resistance, oil resistance, and tear resistance. Suitable for manufacturing high-pressure hoses that are resistant to strong corrosive media, flame-resistant, and ozone-resistant, especially suitable for the outer rubber layer of hoses used in harsh atmospheric environments.
(3) Chloroprene Rubber: Excellent weathering resistance, good oil and solvent resistance, good flame resistance and low permeability. Suitable for manufacturing high-pressure hoses that are oil-resistant, ozone-resistant, weather-resistant, and have low permeability.
(4) Hydrogenated nitrile rubber: exhibits excellent oil resistance, corrosion resistance, resistance to high and low temperatures, oxidation resistance, dynamic fatigue resistance, and ozone resistance, suitable for manufacturing high-pressure hoses with oil resistance and other special requirements.
(5) Nitrile Rubber / PVC: Excellent oil resistance, wear resistance, and ozone resistance, good extrusion performance, easy to process, suitable for manufacturing outer rubber layers of high-pressure hoses used in wear-resistant and ozone-resistant environments.
(6) Aramid Fiber: Aramid fiber has ultra-high strength, high modulus, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and light weight. Its strength is 7 times that of steel wire, modulus is 2-3 times that of steel wire or glass fiber, toughness is twice that of steel wire, and weight is about 1/5 of steel wire. It does not decompose or melt at 450°C, and has good insulation and anti-aging properties, with a long service life.
(7) Flat steel wire: High strength, high modulus, heat-resistant flexibility, good pressure-bearing performance. Especially excellent in anti-twisting and bending deformation performance. High-pressure steel wire braided/wrapped rubber hoses made from flat steel wire show significantly better pulsation performance compared to those made from high-strength (ultra-high strength) steel wire.
